No Poo...Again (Weeks 1 & 2)

So I started No Poo again. I loved it when I started it last year but when we started spending the summer at the water park I didn't know what to do so I was washing and my hair started getting greasy again so I gave up for the time.

Well it's time to get started again. I loved the way my hair felt and it was the healthiest I've ever seen my hair. But also it saves my family money and what homemaker doesn't try to save every penny she can? So this time I started doing a little more research. First I turned to Pinterest and started pinning away anything that looked like it had good information. I was also looking for other ways to No Poo than just the normal Baking Soda and Apple Cider Vinegar way. I found some great resources to help me get started. I spent all of one morning reading and reading and reading. Luckily Hubby was home and helping with the boys because I was in a Do Not Disturb mode.

My plan was to be doing research over the last 9 months so that when the time came I would be ready. Of course that didn't happen. It was time for my monthly doTerra order to come around and I just didn't want to spend the money on more shampoo no matter how great it actually is. So instead of researching for months I had only a few days. I was out of conditioner and wasn't going to buy more so it was time to start the transition period.

Oh fun time! Of course the start of this coincided with my trip back to Colorado. If you follow on facebook then you heard about that. It kind of worked perfectly because I wasn't to worried if people saw me with greasy hair. I was traveling and didn't plan to visit with anyone much because it was just a short visit. So week one was easy. I was in Colorado hanging out at my parents house lifting my dad's spirits. No biggie right?

We came back to Oklahoma just in time for Monkey's youth group pizza party which meant Bible study for mommy at the church I just started going to. I really didn't want people to think I hadn't showered in days. So I decided that I will wash my hair with the basic baking soda and vinegar recipe every Wednesday and Sunday through the traditional period. There's nothing you can do but just suffer through this time. Mine might last a little longer that normal because I'm washing twice a week, the longer you go between washings the better during this time, but I'm OK with that.

The past 2 weeks have required many up-dos and a little trick of using arrowroot flour to help keep my bangs less greasy and the parts that show most. I'm giving myself until the end of February with this method. Then I will be switching to washing only once a week with the baking soda and vinegar. Once my hair starts to regulate it's natural oils then I will start using a honey wash instead. I have read that it is easier on your hair than the traditional method. But I'm also not done researching! I have read so much already and I can't wait to keep learning. There are a few things that I have learned so far:

  • The method I will use will change from time to time. As my hair changes so will what I will use to wash it with.
  • Arrowroot flour has become my best friend. Along with some Coconut oil to help with flyaways. Who knew that it there was so much you could actually use.
  • There are a few things that I have heard are 'suggested to buy' when using no poo so I have the items in my Amazon cart just waiting to purchase them.

Happy Father's Day!

Today is father's day and most people are getting together and celebrating with family. Dads, grandpas and uncles all celebrating together the joys of being a father. Maybe getting a chance to relax and enjoy just sitting around watching the kids play and being surrounded with family. That's what father's day has always looked like for us. We would always gather at my parents house. First, with my grandparents when I was growing up for dinner and a day of enjoying being together. Then as I grew older my sister and I would make sure to spend the day with our dad. Then we got married and had kids of our own and the tradition continued. We would bring all the kids and enjoy BBQing at my parents house enjoying time together. This year things are different. We can't just jump in the car and head over for a BBQ. We can't sit around on the couch or on the patio talking and laughing together. This year we are 12 hours away from where I've always been for father...

Week #2 on THM

Well it's officially the end of week 2 on Trim Healthy Mama! I have tried some more new recipes from the book and from pinterest and I'm having so much fun with it. I also order some xylitol online to save money. I didn't realize how much sweetener I would be using but when you can make sweets for any meal or snack through out the day you can use quite a bit. Favorite Meals this week E pancakes from the book! Yum! I added in frozen berries to them while cooking and they were great and the boys loved them too. They got to have the added whipped cream or syrup on theirs. Fat Stripping Frappa! OMGOSH! This is going to be my go to summer morning drink! I can see myself making one of these up first thing in the morning to get my day going and then enjoying a yummy breakfast 3 hours later. Soon as warm weather hits Hubby's schedule will be packed full daily so my mornings will start early, like 5am early! So having a breakfast at 8:30 will be perfect timing! Cheese ...
