What I Do Does Matter

Have you ever wonder if what you do really matters in the long run? Have you ever felt like washing another sink full of dishes won't make a difference or picking up socks off the floor or making the beds? Does any of that really matter? The examples above are not as important as playing with your kids or going on a date night with your spouse but could you imagine what your house would look like without you there to care for it? Could you imagine if you weren't there to wash the laundry, clean the dishes, or pick up things off the floor? I know my house would be a disaster! I know that some of these things seem meaningless but really someone has to do it. It does matter! If someone wasn't there to clean dishes what would be used at meal times. If someone didn't clean the laundry what would we be wearing. And how gross would the sheets get if they were never cleaned? Every little task that you do each day as a homemaker matters! These are just the little thin

Why In His Perfect Timing?

I discovered that someone else purchased the domain for my old blog name so after chatting with a good friend of mine and tossing back and forth different name ideas and changing things up I finally decided on In His Perfect Timing. Why? I wanted something that spoke what my life means to me. The Heart of a Homemaker was really what I believed my blog was about. What I was writing came right from my heart to your screen. So now what. How else can I explain my life in just a few simple words? I started thinking about what my life has been like so far. Everything working out in it's own time no matter how things look in the moment. It's not my timing that's working out. If it were it wouldn't have taken 2 1/2 years to conceive Monkey. Hubby wouldn't still be an unbeliever. Monkey would have never needed surgery at 3 years old. Hubby wouldn't have ended up being sick and in the hospital for over a month, especially at the time that it happened. There are

Handwashing Dishes Challenge: How Much Did We Save?

So the month is up after trying my hand washing dishes challenge ! When we first decided to see if hand washing would actually save us money we Hubby asked me how much we would need to save to make it worth while. I wasn't sure. He suggested $50. We both agreed that $50 each month would probably be worth the extra time. In the beginning my kitchen was sparkling clean almost every day. I really enjoyed having a nice clean kitchen and hand washing dishes didn't seem so hard or time consuming after all. But throughout the month my kitchen has looked like this.  Don't judge ;) I'm sure we all have days when this is our kitchen. After 2 very busy days my kitchen was overflowing with dishes. I was dreading the time it would take to wash the dishes and get caught up. I had finally hit the point that washing dishes by hand was no longer peaceful but just another chore. And the month was only half over. As soon as the 7th came I was checking the mail daily waiting

The Art of the Parenting See-Saw

Have you ever noticed that parenting can sometimes feel like you are on a see-saw with your little one? It's something I thought about a few days ago as I was struggling through some behavior with Monkey.  There aren't too many times that I have really struggled with Monkey and behavior. He's really a good kid that doesn't test the boundary lines too often. But when he does it comes from all sides and for several days at least. Most of the time I can get him back to normal pretty quickly. I started to think about 'Nice Mommy' vs. 'Mean Mommy' and how I seem to go back and forth between the two depending on how my boys are behaving. Now I'm not saying I'm screaming one second and smiling and happy the next. I'm talking about how we can go weeks having fun with a few talks here and there about behavior but overall I can trust Monkey do choose to do the right thing and follow the rules I have put in place. But then we will have times l

Why a "Tiny House"?

You may be wondering why we chose to build a "tiny house". If you have known me for any length of time you might be questions what Oklahoma is doing to me. I mean hand washing dishes and even attempting hand washing laundry. And then there is the whole farming thing. I mean I'm a city girl that is afraid of chickens and now we plan to have them plus many more animals. And if you have ever saw my brown thumb in action you might even question my gardening skills. But then you add in a tiny house! You know that I want to keep growing my family. I want at least 2 more kids. More if I can convince Hubby and get moving on that whole process. And I love my stuff! I really love having lots of things. And I love spoiling my boys. My sister in law use to run a daycare and she's always said that my kids have more toys than her daycare. So why tiny ? Money.  We currently are still not paying rent here in Oklahoma. Hubby built the inside of his sister's house in exch

Getting the Trailer Ready: Tiny House Update

Hubby has been spending lots of time out in the back acre getting the trailer ready to build on. Since we got this trailer used and for FREE we have some extra hours that we have to put into it. We had to tear off the rest of the RV flooring and installation. Hubby finally got the last of the flooring removed yesterday and was able to fully see the trailer and the condition it is in. He said that for as old as it is (we are guessing '60s) he's happy with the condition it is in. We knew that there was huge water leak and that meant that there could have been a lot of rust that we would have to fix. But for free we were willing to take the chance.  Hubby says that most of the rust is just service rust or paint rust. He is working on sanding it down and then we will paint it with a rust resistant paint and seal it. This will protect it from getting damaged in the future and allow us to live in this house for as many years as we want. Next we have to get the trail

The Power of a Wife

I'm currently reading through the bible with a friend and I have been learning a lot. It's amazing what God is teaching me through this time. But today I decided I wanted to watch something on TV but I didn't want it to just be junk so I decided to watch The Bible series. I'm currently watching the first episode. I just had a realization that I had to share. We were so young in this picture :) I just watched the story of Abraham and Sarah. I sat and watched as Sarah denied over and over again that she would carry a child. She didn't believe that God would give her the child He promised Abraham. She got in the way of God's plan and encouraged her husband to have a child with their servant girl. Then I started thinking about Adam and Eve. The power of a wife. Eve again another woman that encouraged her husband to fall into sin and got in the way of God's plan. I think sometimes we as wives underestimate the power we have in our relationship with o

House Plans are Official!

Well today we have finally made out house plans official. We've been back and forth on what we wanted to do but not anymore. We made this move to Oklahoma to get a large enough piece of land to have a HUGE garden area along with cows, chickens, and maybe even some pigs. But we didn't want to do this by attaining a lot of debt in the process. So as you may have heard in November right before we made our trip back to Colorado for the holidays we bought just under 10 acres of land south east of Oklahoma City. It's amazing land and I'm sure as spring is starting to arrive we are going to fall even more in love with it. We have been spending many weekends out there cutting trees down, burning brush and digging dirt to start making progress on where we want to put our house. Of course we hadn't decided what exactly that house was going to be or how we were going to get it. We just knew we wanted it up on the beautiful hill. So after looking at used mobile homes that

My Birthday Too!

So only a few days after Monkey's birthday is mine and we celebrated by going to breakfast at the local Jimmy's Egg where I splurged at and some delicious pancakes with white chocolate chips and raspberry sauce...oh so yummy! Then we headed to the local store and I went and got a few things that we needed, shampoo and conditioner (because once again No Poo is just not working but more on that later), chicken wings for dinner, and a replacement for my handheld mixer that broke. Daddy and the boys went looking for a gift for me. Goose got me some very pretty tulips!  Monkey spent a very long time looking at all the necklaces trying to pick out the perfect one for me. This one comes with little colored birthstones to put inside for each of us. I told him that now we just have to convince Daddy to have 8 more babies so we can have one for each month. He liked the idea but Daddy didn't so much.  And since this mixer wasn't much more than a handheld one we spent

Monkey's 6th Birthday!

Well I let Monkey turn 6 :) I wasn't sure I was going to allow it but we decided it could be fun to have a 6 year old in the house. And man did we celebrate. We celebrated for several days! We were lucky to have his cousins home for the weekend so they had fun playing all day and we put together a quick birthday dinner party. Mama made a trip into the town to get supplies and since there was a Dollar Tree close by I stopped to get some fun water fight toys. Hubby and I joined in and had a blast squirting the kids. Next time I need to get more so we can all join in at the same time. I think the boys played for at least an hour with the water. And it was a nice 80 some degrees outside so it was a perfect day to enjoy some cold water.  We were able to skype with my parents as he opened presents they sent him and they really enjoyed watching him open his presents. I think his favorite gift was his tie dye shirt from Popa and his new penguin strategy game from Grandma. He loves
