Our Great Sledding Adventure

So if you have watched the weather channel at all this weekend you may have heard about he "blizzard" we had here in Colorado. It wasn't like the blizzards that I grew up with but it was enough that we could head out to our favorite sledding hill and have some great family fun!  Monkey loved having Daddy there to sled down the hill with! The plus side of roofing in Denver...hubby home on snowy days :)  Trying to hide Goose's pink snow pants we had to borrow I have misplaced Monkey's old snow suit :(  First time hanging in the snow! He enjoyed it!   "I'm hungry so I'm going to eat snow."  His favorite phrase of the day :)  Our first snow angel!  The family snow chair Daddy and Monkey's fun snow angels that wrapped up our sledding trip! Then it was time to head home eat lunch and have a nap time. I'm so glad that we were able to head out and go sledding this year. It was something that I felt

How Rocket Learned to Read: A Children's Book Review

(to buy click here) I LOVE this book and so does Monkey! It is absolutely adorable! We have read it several times in a row at Monkey's request.  The pictures are very bright and colorful and hold both Monkey and Goose's attention throughout the story. It's an easy read and it is easy to add in different voices for the two characters to make it more interesting to the boys without much difficulty on my part. But what I love the most is that it teaches that reading is FUN! That you can go anywhere in a book and experience different things through your imagination just by learning how to read! What more could a homeschool mom ask for! It explains that each letter has a different sound and that those sounds make up words. It also has Rocket spell out words so I'm able to say the letters to the word spelled out and then say the words. This is will be helpful in teaching Monkey that the letters in words actually mean something.  Something fun: When ever we

2 Boys Bedtime Routine

We have maybe finally figured out a bedtime routine with both boys. They share a room so there are some difficulties because they are both pretty light sleeps but I'm hoping this schedule will continue because it is just awesome! 7:30pm: Cleaning up toys (Time depends on how many toys are out). Goose nurses.   8:00pm: PJ's, potty and brush teeth for Monkey. PJ's and diaper for Goose    8:15pm: Story time. This includes several books. A fun library book, a learning library book, a book of Monkey's choice, a Goose board book, a chapter from The Magic Treehouse book series and a Bible story.   8:45pm: Prayers. Monkey doesn't like to pray so we all sit together and hold hands (Goose too until he gets to antsy. I try to pray for each member of our family, for good rest for the night and prayers over whatever our plans are for the next day, and then for anyone else that might need prayers that relate to the boys such as their friends. 9:00pm: Tuck them into thei

Just Roll with It!

Yep! That's right! Goose has discover that he can roll around the floor to get to places he wants. The first time he did it I was folding laundry in the other room and when I came back out to the living room he was about 3 feet from where he was when I left and facing the other direction! It shocked me and made me excited too! Now he rolls and pushes himself all around in circles and gets to the toys he wants most of the time. It's fun to watch except my to do list is so long with baby proofing the house it's ridiculous  And we don't even baby proof that much. Do you want to know the newest thing I've seen him do? Knees! Yes...on all fours and rocking! Goose will be crawling before I'm ready that's for sure! I really have to conquer some to do list items fast!

The True Life of a Mom

The true life of a mom is not one of ease but one of much sacrifice. Right now I'm sacrificing sleep & I'm dwindling fast. On days like this one I wonder why I even try to take the relaxed way instead of just pushing through & roughing out the rest of the day. Days like this one feel like my job is never ending, which I know its not, but I can't even get a hour vacation to take a nap, even with M home watching the boys. So to all the moms out there that have to push through & keep moving when there body is protesting otherwise know that there are so many of us out there doing the same thing. Find strength in God to keep you moving. To get dinner cooked, to clean the bathroom, fold & put away laundry, and vacuum (the short version of my to do this) all while trying to manage the kiddos who want to help or destroy the hard work we are doing. Our lives are one of true sacrifice to our husbands and our children that they will cherish even if its not today.

This Season's Verse

I have never really had a verse for a particular season of life. I had one that was helpful when Hubby was very sick & I just had to keep pushing through. But it never really felt like a verse given my God. Well that has changed! I have been struggling with thoughts that Hubby will never return to Jesus. Its hard after 8 years of feeling like nothing is changing & if anything, things seem to be going backwards. Then to top it off Monkey has started saying that he doesn't want to go to church with me. This hit hard the Sunday before we made our emergency trip to Oklahoma. I decided I needed to set an example for Monkey & still go to church. Show him that its something that I value. And I'm glad I did! It was a great service, full of prayer & opportunity to be prayed for. It was an opportunity to cry out to God & let him see my aching heart. The next day I decided that just because Monkey didn't go to church didn't mean that I couldn't teach

Home Just in Time

I'm back home in Colorado! I was suppose to come back on Friday but weather made it so I had to head back earlier than planned. And I'm back just in time for Valentine's day...except we don't celebrate it really so it's not that big of deal. Hubby's mom is going much better. She is out of the ICU now for 3 days and has started physical therapy. She's starting the long recovery to get herself able to move into a rehab center and then to an assistant living home hopefully. Our prayers are that she can be able to go to my sister in laws wedding in April when we will be heading back out to OK again. Stopping my life for 13 days has made my to do list that was already a mile long even longer and needed to be completed in a faster manner than before. Why you ask? Well because I have a little boy that has figured out how to move around and will be crawling probably before the months end! Yes crawling already! I'm ready and so not ready all at the same time.

MIL Update

So a few days ago (I actually think maybe its been over a week and I just have no idea how long I've been here) I shared that we were heading to Oklahoma to be with my mother in law who is in the ICU and we weren't sure how long she had. Well in a change in events she's starting to get slightly better. In her current situation every little bit counts and  she is doing great compared to when we first arrived. She is still in the ICU but she has been able to get off some of her medications, she has started eating and drinking again, she is more awake and able to talk and there is talk from the doctors that she may recover enough to get out of the hospital. She will need 24 hour care so she will never return to working or to her home but its better than what we were thinking. She still has cancer so it's still a matter of time but more time is better. Her parents came out from CO to visit her Wednesday to Saturday and my hubby returned home with them leaving me and

Praying for Our Husbands

There are so many things we should be doing in our everyday life that get pushed aside but praying for our husband's should not be one of them. I admit that this is something that I struggle with...well praying in general on most days. I learned how to pray for my husband years ago in the early days of our marriage. First you pray for yourself, not selfishly but confessing your sins, asking for healing in areas that need it, and then asking for help in the areas you are struggling. Then after that you can pray for your husband. Why are we suppose to pray this way? Well, because we need to have a clean heart to pray honestly for our husbands and not selfishly. We have to remember to ask God to clean our hearts, to help us become the wife he wants us to be, to change our hearts towards our husbands, to help us to love him unconditionally right where he is. Once our hearts are right then we pray for our husbands hearts. To give him strength to deal with the struggles he's fac

You want to sleep?

This is what Goose thinks about Mommy taking a nap! Of course he had his nap in the car ride home.
