So we are trying to teach Rex how to ride his 3 year old bike. He has never liked to pedal but he wants to ride his bike.
He got the hang of coasting down the driveway but just couldn't get the pedaling down. This was our first attempt so we are just going to keep working one it. We are trying to get him to learn before 4th of July because the park by our house has a bike parade for the kids every year and we would like him to be able to pedal by the judges and maybe even win.
Either way he was having fun for a little bit but since he couldn't figure it out he decided he wanted to ride his scooter instead. That he knows how to do and loves using it. I guess if all else fails he can just use that for the parade since he likes it.
Anyone have any tips on how to teach a child to use the pedals? I just really don't know what else to do than what we are trying.
Try a STRIDER!!! Hands down, one of the best purchases we've made for our kiddos. A wee bit spendy (I think they're around $90 on Amazon) but seriously well worth the $$$. We got Timmy one for his 2nd birthday and within 4 weeks (seriously) the dude was balancing on just the 2 wheels and hauling a$$ up and down the street. It also weighs only 4 pounds so when he crashed, which was often, the weight of the bike didn't hurt him. He's moved onto a big kid bike with pedals now, but having a "balance bike" like the Strider REALLY helped him out. Now his baby sister (at 15 months) is starting to sit on it and toddle along. Amazing how quickly the 2nd born seems to pick things up!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestion. We will have to look into that and see what we find. Not sure we are able to spend money on a new bike right now. He has a ton of older boy cousins that everything gets handed down. He has each bike he will need until he is a teen.
