If there is one thing I have learned about homemaking is that media is the devil's way of getting you to do nothing. I can easily get wrapped up in any type of media and not accomplish anything for the day (including neglecting my child's need for attention).
Homemaking now a days is much easier than my grandparents, or even great grandparents. Now we have a dish washer, washing machine, stoves/ovens, microwaves...etc. to make our homemaking even easier. However it still seems like it takes a long time to get anything done.
For my family we have made choices that require things to take more time. Like no microwave, line drying a lot of our clothes, and washing all our pots and pans by hand to save on the amount of time we run the dishwasher.
This is important to me because adding some more to my daily routine saves us money and helps me add some money to our finances.
I can't imagine how life was before all of our modern conveniences. What it was like to raise, kill and prepare out meat. To sew the families clothes (or even make the thread and fabric myself). This is all stuff I have no idea how to do and on most days I don't care about knowing it either.
I love being able to go to the store and buy prepackaged meat. I love being able to always find the veggies that I need to cook meals for my family. With all these things we have today it makes me wonder why we are all so busy and stressed about getting everything done.
I personally, when starting this adventure of posting about media, decided that I would not allow myself to get sucked into watching TV during the day. I'm proud to say that my house is much cleaner and I'm accomplishing more because I'm not being wasteful with my time. I do have days where I get sucked into the computer and trying to catch up on all the blog posts I missed from the weekend and leave dishes sitting in the sink or laundry undone. I'm trying to be better about this.
I do have to admit that I go through all the post and anything that looks interesting I open. Then I start reading them or just look at the pictures. If I'm really behind I will only read that posts that I feel will make me a better person by reading. (Sorry to all the blog posts that get skipped over but I have to take care of my family so I hope you understand).
Right now as I'm typing I have to say that I have dishes in the sink, laundry on the line, and papers all over our table that I need to take care of before my hubby gets home. So with that I need to wrap this up and get to work.
How does media interfere with your homemaking? Do you have any things you do to make sure that you do not get wrapped up in media, leaving things undone? I would love to hear about them. Who knows maybe they can help me!
