Why we use Coconut Milk

We have a dairy allergy in our house (myself and Rex) and although I love cow's milk (I use to drink at least a gallon  a week) I can't drink any of it anymore. When Rex was born we made it through the first 10 months on breast milk and then we did 2 months on soy milk formula before we tried two cups of cow's milk and decided that he definitively had the allergy. So the search was on...

So even before I read all the great things Coconut milk has to offer I did know a few things. One I wasn't going to give Rex soy milk because the the high estrogen levels. Even if study's say it's fine for boys to drink I'm not really willing to risk my child to find out for sure. Then there is the choice of Almond milk which wasn't an option because of the fear of the nut allergy being passed down to him. Then there is Rice milk which if you have ever had it there is no flavor or texture to it. It's like drinking cloudy water. So I asked around at the nutrition store and they said that they love Coconut Milk. They told me it has a good flavor and texture and that it is really good for you. So we tried it. Rex loved it. I drank it and it was good but it would take so getting use to but now after 1 1/2 years I love it too (sometimes I still crave the taste of soy milk though).

There are so many great things about coconut milk that I'm still discovering. I didn't completely look it to it when we first started drinking it. I was glad we had another option and that Rex was OK with it.  Coconut trees are known in some cultures as 'The Tree of Life" because of the healing properties it has. Coconut milk has medium chain fatty acids from saturated fats that the body uses as energy instead of storing them like the saturated fats in animals. These fatty acids are also anti-viral and anti-microbial which helps the body stay healthy too. Once the lauric acid (also found in breast milk) that is in coconut milk gets into your body's system it turns into and anti-bacterial and anti-viral substance called momlauric which then kills off virus'. Gotta love that. Just drinking coconut milk everyday helps keep virus away or at least gets you over them faster. A plus for adults (and kids to I guess nowadays) is the it will help maintain a healthy weight without raising cholesterol levels. So Delicious Coconut milk is also fortified with the correct balance of calcium, magnesium, and Vitamin D to help with calcium absorption so that we all can have strong bones too!

So I hope that this information is informative for you. If you do try some know that it does taste different and I can still tell after all this time but it taste good and it's good for you so it is worth it. i have no desire to go back to cow's milk. Actually cow's milk doesn't taste that good anymore.

Day 2 of 31 Day to Clean

So I have told you the other day that I'm going to start 31 Days to Clean by Sara Mae. (For that post go to 31 days to clean post). So I'm finally on day 2 after several days in between. This will be the way it is for me because not everyday I will be able to tackle a big task, like day number 2, but I did it today and that is what counts. So what was day 2...clean the refrigerator and freezer (at least the Martha part) so that's what I did. I cleaned the refrigerator not that long ago but I figured I would just do it again and I'm glad. Just after about 2 months (maybe 3) it really needed cleaned again and I'm really happy that it looks really nice and I can find all the stuff that is in there again. I think that I'm going to put this on my To Do list every other month. I think that would be really helpful and that way it stays clean. I'm just going to put it in my day planner and when I have some free time on day I will do it that month. Sounds like a pl...

Baby Bumpdate: Week 35

35 Weeks! That means only 5 left!!!! Holy cow!!! I think I'm starting to freak out just a little!!! How far along? 35 Weeks! Yea! How big is baby?  He's about 18 inches and just over 5 pounds. Weight gain? I gained a pound last week. Maternity Clothes?  Of course. I'm living in tanks right now because of the heat. Just wish I had more shorts to wear. Stretch Marks?  Nothing new. Just the ones from before and Monkey. Sleep? With this cold I'm not sleeping much. I'm getting a little better and able to sleep about 4 to 6 hours at night and then at nap time I'm able to get 1 or 2 more hours of sleep. However, I'm still exhausted especially because of the heat. It just drains all my energy. Even when I'm sitting in the shade under a fan. Of course it's only June so I'm not sure how this heat thing will effect me in July :/ Best Moment this Week?  Monkey kissing my belly before he went down for a nap. It was so cute. He ...

Media Monday: How it affects my child

Media is neither good or bad. Last week I talked about media in our marriage and a little bit about our family and media but today is all about Rex and media. Rex loves cartoons! Right now he happens to be watching Veggie Tales while eating lunch. This is not a normal thing at all. I can't remember the last time he was eating while watching TV. Today we had a crazy time and he asked to watch a movie and I didn't have a problem with it. Plus it's Veggie Tales.  We have a limit (during mommy in charge time) that he is only allowed to watch one movie/TV show each day and some days we don't watch anything. When daddy gets home things change and the TV is on within minutes of being home. Rex normally doesn't care that the TV is on because of our daily activities. He plays or helps me cook unless daddy is watching adult cartoons then he is more interested.  This past winter I found us watching more TV than I planned ever to let my children watch. So once it start...
