WOW! What a Week!

What a week I have had! It was my first time every going to a homeschool conference! I loved every minute of it! I wish there was more (well in many ways).

I was told over and over again from veteran homeschool moms that I should not attend this conference alone. That it is very overwhelming, especially the first time. Well with my hubby being a exterior contractor this is his busy season and we are lucky if we see him for an hour in the evening much less trying to attend a three day conference. Now if it was in the winter I think he might have enjoyed seeing some of it but instead I invited my mom to come along with me. It was great to have someone there to discuss things with, share the cost on some items (you know grandma's jut can't pass some things up that us mama's have to) and she attended the workshops that I wanted to hear except I currently don't have the ability to be in two places at once.

I learned so much while there the last 3 days and it was just simply amazing! I have a math curriculum for my nephew to start, I got some great ideas to help teach him language skills, I found a place that is going to help evaluate him and help him deal with some of the struggles he's having physically, and I found so much for Monkey too! I know that this school year we are going to do sign language for our first taste of homeschool! It is something that both of the boys can benefit from and a great parenting tool to have as well! I bought Handwriting Without Tears curriculum for Monkey to start using so he can learn to write his letters the correct way! And I bought the Math U See manipulative's from the used sale for more than half the price! We won't be starting Math U See this year but we will be next year so I thought it was worth it.

Basically, I'm tired (finally today it all came tumbling down on me) but I'm so energized for what we are going to do this summer! I have some many good ideas in my brain and in note form that I want to do! I'm making sure that I think through what is most important to start with now and then move on to other projects/activities later in the summer! I'm no longer feeling doubt about being able to teach my boys all the way through their school years! I know that I can do and I know that their is great resources out there that is going to help me along the way! If you are even considering homeschooling you have to attend a conference! It will be worth it in every way! But remember the buddy system, a spouse, family member or friend with do wonders while attending an event like this one!

Holiday Traditions?

I'm so excited to be co-hosting with Melissa! I have been a long time reader & finally got around to co-hosting! I can't wait to see all of your holiday traditions & I'm sure add a few to my list too! Holiday Traditions? What are those? I'm not sure we have any set up in our family. We never really had anything that we did every year growing up either. So I'm not surprised that we haven't thought about setting anything up for our kids either. Last year we tried doing the  Three Wise Men Gifts  but I of course bought more than just 3 gifts. So what is the plan this year for holiday traditions in our house? Bass Pro Shop Winter Wonderland to visit Santa Three wise men gifts  One Santa gift plus the stocking Baking cookies at Granny & Great Popa's house Baking cookies at Grandma & Popa's house with cousins & then heading to the local fire department & police station to share with the men & women that keep us safe throug

My Pregnancy Story with Monkey

So I have one of those crazy "I didn't know I was pregnant" stories. Yes I didn't know I was pregnant until I was pretty far along but I will get to that.  In May 2008 we picked up and moved out of state. At this time we had been completely off birth control for 2 years and nothing. We also found out when we first started trying that I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)  which basically meant "good luck getting pregnant". We decided that we would start the adoption process if we were not pregnant by the time we were 30 so we had a few years (still do actually! Yeah God!) So we were just enjoying life in Oklahoma and enjoying the small town life. Every Sunday morning we would walk down the street and enjoy breakfast at Selena's, we'd sit on our front porch and talk with the neighbors, and visit family in town at least once a week. Starting close to October I started feeling like something was wrong with me so I went to the OU campus in Tu
