Random Act of Kindness: Snow Edition

This weekend we got it with a pretty big snow storm in Denver. By no means the blizzard they made it out to be but enough that we were able to go sledding and have some fun outside.

Monday morning I woke up in a grumpy mood. I really don't know why I was just not happy. We planned to go sledding and I knew that once we got there I would enjoy myself. Well I had to head out before our sledding adventure to borrow some snow pants for Goose which gave me a chance to be kid free and hopefully come home in a better mood. While driving down the main street out of our neighborhood I saw an older man that was trying to shovel the previous days snow which was about 12 inches deep. The poor man would shovel 2 loads of snow then have to stop and take a break. I was watching as I was driving down the road and as I passed him God put it on my heart to turn around and help him. So that's what I did.

I parked in front of his house and told him to let me finish while he went inside and rested. He just looked at me like I was crazy but he let me take over. So I began shoveling and shoveling and when I was about half way through what was left I was starting to regret my decision in some ways because my back was starting to hurt and was getting worse with each scoop of snow.

Let me tell you our God is awesome because he sent someone to then help me and in ways that I didn't fully understand until a little later. A man about my age came up and said, "Why don't you let me finish that for you?"

I couldn't believe it. I told him that I was actually helping the man that lives here and apparently his girlfriend called him to come help when she saw the man shoveling on her way to work. How crazy is it that this man was lucky enough to have 2 kind strangers come to help him.

I went and let him know that I was leaving and I headed over to my friends house. When I pulled up to her house guess who still had 12 inches of snow on their sidewalks? Yep I started shoveling her sidewalk. God knew that I would help her by shoveling. She's pregnant with her 4th little one and has been struggling so I had an opportunity to serve her so that's what I did.

God is so amazing because if I had shoveled the other walk completely then I would have really struggled through my friends walk which I would have done whether or not my back was hurting or not. God also help my attitude change by letting me serve others! Isn't amazing how great you feel after helping someone in need? I was no longer grumpy when I got home and I was ready to go sledding! The toughest part of the whole trip was passing others that were out shoveling that I just wanted to stop and help too.

I'd love to hear some of your random acts of kindness that  you are spreading around your community! Please share!

My Pregnancy Story with Monkey

So I have one of those crazy "I didn't know I was pregnant" stories. Yes I didn't know I was pregnant until I was pretty far along but I will get to that.  In May 2008 we picked up and moved out of state. At this time we had been completely off birth control for 2 years and nothing. We also found out when we first started trying that I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)  which basically meant "good luck getting pregnant". We decided that we would start the adoption process if we were not pregnant by the time we were 30 so we had a few years (still do actually! Yeah God!) So we were just enjoying life in Oklahoma and enjoying the small town life. Every Sunday morning we would walk down the street and enjoy breakfast at Selena's, we'd sit on our front porch and talk with the neighbors, and visit family in town at least once a week. Starting close to October I started feeling like something was wrong with me so I went to the OU campus in Tu
