Peanut Butter?

I got a great idea from a friend but the problem is that it doesn't work for my family so I'm hoping that you all might be able to give me some ideas.

A friend of mine said that she takes a loaf a bread and makes peanut butter and jelly sandwiches out of the whole loaf. Then she freezes them so she can take them with her when her and the kids are heading out for a day at the zoo or whatever. She said it's perfect because they are defrosted by the time they are ready to eat lunch and it helps keep the rest of lunch cold like fruits or cheese.

So here is my dilemma...Monkey is allergic to peanut butter! Yep this idea is great for me because I love peanut butter and jelly but I can't feed it to Monkey or Hubby and most likely Goose. I'm thinking of trying a regular ham and cheese sandwich and see how it goes. I'm just not quite sure it will work.

Does anyone else do this? Anyone have suggestions on what I can use instead of peanut butter? I grew up loving peanut butter and having friends that enjoyed it too...so this is new territory for me.

  1. Allergic to all nuts? Could you use another type of butter?

    1. We don't know the verdict yet on that one. We still need to do the allergy test but I want M to take Rex or at least go with us since he's been through it several times before. My mom found a nut free 'peanut' butter but we haven't tried it. I'm nervous to try it because I LOVE peanut butter and I'm afraid it will just taste awful.

  2. I agree with the previous commenter. Maybe try sunflower seed butter or another kind? I think there are different nut-free varieties if that's the problem.

    1. Have you tried any nut-free that you would recommend? I'm such a peanut butter nut that if I tried it and it taste awful then I'm not sure I could feed it to Rex.

Happy Father's Day!

Today is father's day and most people are getting together and celebrating with family. Dads, grandpas and uncles all celebrating together the joys of being a father. Maybe getting a chance to relax and enjoy just sitting around watching the kids play and being surrounded with family. That's what father's day has always looked like for us. We would always gather at my parents house. First, with my grandparents when I was growing up for dinner and a day of enjoying being together. Then as I grew older my sister and I would make sure to spend the day with our dad. Then we got married and had kids of our own and the tradition continued. We would bring all the kids and enjoy BBQing at my parents house enjoying time together. This year things are different. We can't just jump in the car and head over for a BBQ. We can't sit around on the couch or on the patio talking and laughing together. This year we are 12 hours away from where I've always been for father...

Week #2 on THM

Well it's officially the end of week 2 on Trim Healthy Mama! I have tried some more new recipes from the book and from pinterest and I'm having so much fun with it. I also order some xylitol online to save money. I didn't realize how much sweetener I would be using but when you can make sweets for any meal or snack through out the day you can use quite a bit. Favorite Meals this week E pancakes from the book! Yum! I added in frozen berries to them while cooking and they were great and the boys loved them too. They got to have the added whipped cream or syrup on theirs. Fat Stripping Frappa! OMGOSH! This is going to be my go to summer morning drink! I can see myself making one of these up first thing in the morning to get my day going and then enjoying a yummy breakfast 3 hours later. Soon as warm weather hits Hubby's schedule will be packed full daily so my mornings will start early, like 5am early! So having a breakfast at 8:30 will be perfect timing! Cheese ...
