Going No Poo!

Have you heard of No Poo? Well if you have been searching for more natural, less chemical ways of life then you probably have. I heard about it probably close to 2 months ago but I have been working on emptying all the bottles of shampoo and conditioner that I had around the house before I switched. I just couldn't see wasting the money and throwing what I already had away.

So now all my hair cleaning products have been emptied and it's time to make the switch. I have already made my own toothpaste and deodorant and I'm loving them and my hubby is actually on board too, surprisingly! (I will share with you my recipes when I have ones that I love, still experimenting)

I learned about the No Poo method from Ashley's Green Life. She explains the "transition period" with some science information behind it. I will share my personal experience with this time after I'm through it. I'm excited to try more styles up with my hair from The Small Things Blog, this one is my favorite and go to.

So here's just a little about the no poo method. You use 1 TBS baking soda and 1 cup cold (filtered) water and mix it into a container of choice. I like Ashley's spray bottle idea the best so I'm going to start with that. This is the "shampoo" part of washing your hair.
For the "conditioner" you use 1 TBS apple cider vinegar to 1 cup (filtered) water. Ashley recommends letting it soak in while you finish your other shower duties. And then rinse well and the smell will be gone.

So I'm heading out to the store to get the supplies I need which is only the spray bottles because I have the rest because I use it in a lot of other things. I will keep you updated and take pictures of my hair throughout the whole process and we will see how things change. I'm hoping for healthier hair!

Have you ever tried the No Poo method? Would you ever try it? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Happy Father's Day!

Today is father's day and most people are getting together and celebrating with family. Dads, grandpas and uncles all celebrating together the joys of being a father. Maybe getting a chance to relax and enjoy just sitting around watching the kids play and being surrounded with family. That's what father's day has always looked like for us. We would always gather at my parents house. First, with my grandparents when I was growing up for dinner and a day of enjoying being together. Then as I grew older my sister and I would make sure to spend the day with our dad. Then we got married and had kids of our own and the tradition continued. We would bring all the kids and enjoy BBQing at my parents house enjoying time together. This year things are different. We can't just jump in the car and head over for a BBQ. We can't sit around on the couch or on the patio talking and laughing together. This year we are 12 hours away from where I've always been for father...

Week #2 on THM

Well it's officially the end of week 2 on Trim Healthy Mama! I have tried some more new recipes from the book and from pinterest and I'm having so much fun with it. I also order some xylitol online to save money. I didn't realize how much sweetener I would be using but when you can make sweets for any meal or snack through out the day you can use quite a bit. Favorite Meals this week E pancakes from the book! Yum! I added in frozen berries to them while cooking and they were great and the boys loved them too. They got to have the added whipped cream or syrup on theirs. Fat Stripping Frappa! OMGOSH! This is going to be my go to summer morning drink! I can see myself making one of these up first thing in the morning to get my day going and then enjoying a yummy breakfast 3 hours later. Soon as warm weather hits Hubby's schedule will be packed full daily so my mornings will start early, like 5am early! So having a breakfast at 8:30 will be perfect timing! Cheese ...
