How I Plan to Give Up TV

TV is a huge part of our culture in today's culture and I get sucked into it just the rest of us. I can't wait to see the next episode of whatever series I'm currently into. I love watching romantic shows and family friendly sitcoms. Neither one are easy to find for new and current series but older series sure seem to fit the bill. But there are downsides to watching past series. You never have to wait to watch the next episode, it's just there. So what happens...it just keeps playing and playing without a need to wait until next week and I get sucked in at every cliff hanger they have.

So how am I going to break this nasty habit? Well I'm going to finish the last few episodes of the current series I'm addicted to when the kids are sleeping because seriously I can't wait several weeks to finish the last 4 episodes. Yesterday, I started playing Pandora radio through our TV to have music going through the house during the day. I like having the background noise over the kids. It gives me something to focus on when the kids are running around like crazy little boys to keep me sane but also music helps gets me motivated to get work done around the house. I choose to play Christian music because it's good for all of us. I also set up a Veggie Tale station for the kids so I play that as well.

I also plan to get back to my workouts as soon as I fully recover from falling off the bottom concrete step. I beat myself up pretty bad just trying to be nice and say hi to someone in the neighborhood. I thought I was better so I walked the 2 miles to my parents house to get the jogging stroller that doesn't fit in my car and then walked the 2 miles back home but my body started screaming when I was about half way home. I ended up barely able to walk for 2 days following that trip. So I'm not going to over do it. I'm giving myself this week off and just doing normal housecleaning and stretching A LOT to help me be prepared next week. Then I'm starting the Bikini Body Mommy Challenge over. I saw results and I was making progress but then I started working nights with the hubby and it through everything off and I never got started again. By getting my workouts in it will give me something else to do instead of watching TV but it will also give me more energy to be up and moving and getting the boys out of the house during the nice weather we have been having (minus today).

I'm also starting our homeschool year! Ya! See my hubby works more hours during the spring, summer, and fall so we have school months during these seasons and do less during the winter because Daddy is home more. So I'm starting off by using the Character Traits that the Duggar's use. We will have a new one every 2 to 4 weeks depending on how much we need the training in our house and how many activities I plan with it. We will also be using the Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons book. Monkey really enjoyed this book when we were using it before and I know that he will pick up where we left off quickly. I will also be working with Goose on how to hold markers and crayons as well as learning and using more signs with words. I also will be including written letters, signing letters, and teaching sounds. We will also be doing fun things like crafts, puzzles, cooking, and field trips. This will help us learn about animals, maps, math, etc. I know that we will have so much fun learning together! I can't wait to get started.

Here is something I have noticed just yesterday and today. Without having the TV on the kids have been playing better together, having more fun and enjoying time together. I think they know that I'm more involved and they don't need to scream for my attention. I'm on top of whatever is going on. I'm readily available. Lunch time was great too. Because they got time with mommy before it was time to cook they were able to play without being under my feet the whole time.

I know that this post makes me sound like Mom of the Year right? But I don't write this blog to share how I'm the perfect parent and/or wife. I write to help encourage others to be better by showing my weaknesses and how God gives me strength to work through them to become better. TV is a weakness of mine as I'm sure many others. I want to be an encouragement to others to push through that weakness and to worship God instead of the TV. We worship whatever we spend most of our time doing you know. Plus homeschooling is a passion of mine but every time I start to think about doing it I get overwhelmed and I just never stick with it. I need to stop that! TV has given me an escape from having to deal with that stress but by giving that up and with my new homeschooling plan which I will share later I hope to be better at getting things accomplished. I don't want to buy curriculum for kindergarten. It's such a waste so I need to find a way to make school work until we are ready to start buying curriculum in a few years.

Well it's nap time here and my TV time to finish my 4 episodes is dwindling by the minute and I still have to get dishes done before I will allow myself to sit and veg out. Please share with me your struggles. I really feel like I'm the only one because there are no comments even though I know I have readers out there...somewhere.

Day 2 of 31 Day to Clean

So I have told you the other day that I'm going to start 31 Days to Clean by Sara Mae. (For that post go to 31 days to clean post). So I'm finally on day 2 after several days in between. This will be the way it is for me because not everyday I will be able to tackle a big task, like day number 2, but I did it today and that is what counts. So what was day 2...clean the refrigerator and freezer (at least the Martha part) so that's what I did. I cleaned the refrigerator not that long ago but I figured I would just do it again and I'm glad. Just after about 2 months (maybe 3) it really needed cleaned again and I'm really happy that it looks really nice and I can find all the stuff that is in there again. I think that I'm going to put this on my To Do list every other month. I think that would be really helpful and that way it stays clean. I'm just going to put it in my day planner and when I have some free time on day I will do it that month. Sounds like a pl...

WEDDING! Part 2: The Day Of

**Warning more Picture overload!** I couldn't help it! WEDDING DAY! (August 6, 2005) On our wedding day I was so excited! I got ready at my parents house and J. and the guys got ready at our house. It was so much fun to get our hair done at a long time friends  hair salon .  After that we headed over to my parents house to start getting ready.    Everyone was busy getting me ready and many people were up my dress trying to get my 'fluff' to stay up so I didn't have to hold my dress us when walking.  My dad was kicked out of the house until I was done. I wanted him to get the whole sh-a-bang when he walked in. This was interesting. I had to climb into the truck but was not allowed to step on the tailgate and I couldn't see my feet. It was so funny! It looks like we were going fast but we really weren't but that's how we got to the park.  THE CEREMONY! After all that hard work to make it so I ...

Monkey's Surgery

So I finally downloaded pictures and I thought I'd share the cute pictures of my little boy after his surgery he had in April. No one should have surgery at 3 years old but poor little Monkey had to have his gallbladder removed due to his blood disorder called spherecytosis.  I had to stay in bed with him afterwards. He didn't want me to go anywhere. However, being pregnant made it so I had to use the bathroom quite often so luckily he was OK with Aunt Tiffany or Grandma holding his hand while I went. He hadn't been aloud to eat for almost 48 hours. He was starving! He ate almost the whole plate of pancakes and the nurses were shocked he could eat so much. They kept encouraging us to get him up and out of the room later in the afternoon after the surgery. So we headed out in the wagon first. He wasn't to happy about being moved and we made him walk a little bit in the room but he was glad to be out.  Granny and Great Po...
