How to Train Your Dragon: Movie Review

I have been struggling with many of the movies that are out today for children. They have inappropriate language, behavior & even teaching our children that big business & working hard are bad things! I'm seriously appalled with several movies that we have watched recently & have even considered watching all children movies before I let Monkey watch them.
There are still some good ones though like 'How to Train Your Dragon'.
I think this is a super cute movie. I'm actually watching it right now while Monkey taking a nap. There's really nothing else on to watch at the moment anyway.
Although Hiccup disobeyed his father repeatedly throughout the movie he does it for a greater good for his people. He knows that something just isn't right about the way the people treat the dragons. He wants to fit in & get his fathers approval so he tries to kill the ultimate dragon, the night fury. When it comes down to it he just can't do it.
Hiccup ends up discovering that the dragons aren't dangerous like the other Vikings believe. He tries to show the others this but they do not trust it. They perceive them as threats.
That's when Hiccup's dad goes after the dragons nest to kill all the dragons to only discover that there is a dragon larger than he ever imagined. Lucky for him, Hiccup and the other kids come to the rescue of the village. Flying on their dragons and showing the adults that they aren't dangerous like they once believed.
Hiccup's different perception on the dragons ends up saving the entire village.
He shows bravery & courage. He knows he's different & even though in the beginning he shy's away from it, he owns it later. By the end of the movie he's proud that he's different & he is finally excepted for who he is by his dad.
This movie has great lessons for the whole family.
For the kids:
- Be strong in your own skin.
- Stand up for what you believe in.
- Its OK to be different.
- Be open with your parents. Share your heart & ideas with them. Pray that they will listen to what you have to say.
For the parents:
- Except your children as they are.
- Don't push your interests on your children especially if they show that they are not interested.
- Your child will always seek your approval so make sure they know you are proud of them.
- Listen to your children, their hearts & their ideas. Who knows what they can teach us!
So if your looking for a good movie for your kids (especially boys who like things like fighting & dragons by nature) this is one that I would recommend!

  1. Love this post, I completely agree with how bad some movies for children can be! I am "that mom" that is very wary about what the kids are watching. Love your review, well now definitely be adding this one to our approved list! Thanks so much!! :)

    1. I'm glad that I'm not the only mom that is protective over what my kids watch! Veggie Tales are always safe but I don't want to limit to just that. I think I'm going to do some other reviews on cartoons and movies that we watch...but first I have to find time to sit down and write something up.

Happy Father's Day!

Today is father's day and most people are getting together and celebrating with family. Dads, grandpas and uncles all celebrating together the joys of being a father. Maybe getting a chance to relax and enjoy just sitting around watching the kids play and being surrounded with family. That's what father's day has always looked like for us. We would always gather at my parents house. First, with my grandparents when I was growing up for dinner and a day of enjoying being together. Then as I grew older my sister and I would make sure to spend the day with our dad. Then we got married and had kids of our own and the tradition continued. We would bring all the kids and enjoy BBQing at my parents house enjoying time together. This year things are different. We can't just jump in the car and head over for a BBQ. We can't sit around on the couch or on the patio talking and laughing together. This year we are 12 hours away from where I've always been for father...

Week #2 on THM

Well it's officially the end of week 2 on Trim Healthy Mama! I have tried some more new recipes from the book and from pinterest and I'm having so much fun with it. I also order some xylitol online to save money. I didn't realize how much sweetener I would be using but when you can make sweets for any meal or snack through out the day you can use quite a bit. Favorite Meals this week E pancakes from the book! Yum! I added in frozen berries to them while cooking and they were great and the boys loved them too. They got to have the added whipped cream or syrup on theirs. Fat Stripping Frappa! OMGOSH! This is going to be my go to summer morning drink! I can see myself making one of these up first thing in the morning to get my day going and then enjoying a yummy breakfast 3 hours later. Soon as warm weather hits Hubby's schedule will be packed full daily so my mornings will start early, like 5am early! So having a breakfast at 8:30 will be perfect timing! Cheese ...
