It's about a woman who has been married twice, once divorced and once widowed. She is trying to figure out where life is going to take her and spends the summer with the Edwards family on New Hampshire's cost.
She is a tutor for Julie, the 18 year old daughter who is preparing for the SAT's the following year. When her brothers, Jeff and Ben, come to the house things start to get interesting.
BOOK SYNOPSIS:
But when the Edwardses' two grown sons, Ben and Jeff, arrive at the beach house, Sydney finds herself caught up in a destructive web of old tensions and bitter divisions. As the brothers vie for her affections, the fragile existence Sydney has rebuilt is threatened.
With the subtle wit, lyrical language, and brilliant insight into the human heart that has led her to be called "an author at one with her métier" (Miami Herald), Shreve weaves a novel about marriage, family, and the supreme courage it takes to love.
It's on the verge of a romance novel but it's not trashy and doesn't go into details that I really don't care to know. I really don't like the trashy romance novels that explain every sex scene in detail. There are great twists and turns to keep your attention through out the book.
The ending has a shocking twist that I was both hopeful for but also disappointed to see it end the way it did. I grabbed this book from the library for my new kindle and loved the convenience of it. I'm off to read my next book and will post a review of that when finished.
